After more than 25 years of working for other companies, we embarked on a family ski trip to Lutsen, which became a turning point in our lives. Inspired by our children’s interest in the trades, we decided to establish a company that they could be a part of someday. This decision fueled our determination to deliver unparalleled service, going above and beyond to exceed customer expectations.
From High School to Industry Experts
At O'Boys Plumbing, Heating & Air, we have come a long way from our humble beginnings. Our story began when Rob Orstad, our founder, started working as an HVAC installer while still in high school. Over the years, he dedicated himself to honing his skills and gaining experience in the industry. Through hard work and determination, Rob progressed from an apprentice to a journeyman, and eventually held positions as an install manager and operations manager. His journey in the HVAC field has been nothing short of inspiring.

Our journey as a family began with Rob’s undeniable passion for the industry. From the early years of our relationship, I witnessed Rob’s excitement as he pointed out homes where he had installed HVAC systems during our drives together. Our youngest daughter supports us in the office, utilizing her skills to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, my mom provides invaluable office support as needed.
Our team extends beyond our family, as we consider our employees not just as colleagues but as cherished friends. Most of them have been with us for many years, bringing their expertise and a sense of camaraderie to our work environment.

Behind the O'Boys Plumbing, Heating & Air Name
The story behind the O'Boys Plumbing, Heating & Air’s name is a testament to our history and values. In the early days of Rob’s HVAC career, he often collaborated with a friend on side jobs for friends and family.
They playfully referred to themselves as the “OH boys,” derived from their last name initials. When the time came to establish our own company, we found it challenging to settle on a name. However, we kept returning to the sentiment behind the “OH boys” concept and realized that incorporating our last name, Orstad would be a perfect representation of our family values.
The idea of using our boys’ images as our logo clicked, and O'Boys Plumbing, Heating & Air was born. To honor our daughter, we embraced her favorite color, blue, as the primary color for our truck designs and overall color scheme.
